Dress Code

Parents and guardians play the primary role in guiding their child's dress and grooming. The school also has a responsibility to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for all students.

Student attire and grooming should support learning and should not create a distraction, safety concern, or disruption to the school environment. Students are expected to come to school dressed appropriately and prepared for learning.

 

General Expectations

  • Clothing must fit appropriately and be in good condition.
  • Clothing should be clean and free of rips or tears above the knee.
  • Attire should be modest and non-revealing.
  • Appropriate undergarments must be worn and not visible.
  • Students are expected to practice good personal hygiene.
  • Visible tattoos and body piercings are not permitted.
  • Clothing, accessories, or personal items may not display or promote drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, violence, sexual content, profanity, or other inappropriate language, images, or symbols.

The campus principal may prohibit any clothing, accessory, hairstyle, grooming practice, emblem, or logo that is determined to be a distraction, safety concern, or disruption to the educational environment. The principal's decision regarding acceptable dress and grooming shall be final.

Shirts

  • All shirts must have sleeves that extend past the shoulder seam.
  • Undergarments must not be visible.
  • Spaghetti straps and tank tops are not permitted.
  • Shirts must extend below the waistline.
  • Clothing or colors identified as symbols of gang affiliation or other disruptive groups may be prohibited at the discretion of the campus principal.
 

Pants, Shorts, Skirts, and Dresses

  • Jeans, pants, and capris must be worn at the waist.
  • Sagging pants or pants worn below the waistline are not permitted.
  • Shorts must be worn at the waist and extend at least to mid-thigh.
  • Skirts and dresses must be knee length or longer.
  • Rips or tears in pants are permitted only if they are below the knee.
  • Tights or leggings may be worn only when paired with a top that extends to mid-thigh.
  • Sheer tights or leggings are not permitted.
  • Leggings with mesh below mid-thigh length are acceptable.
 

Shoes

  • Shoes must be worn at all times.
  • House shoes, shower shoes, flip-flops, and slippers are not permitted.
  • Shoes should be appropriate for physical activity, recess, and PE.
  • Shoes with wheels, roller inserts, or similar devices are not permitted on campus.
 

Hair

  • Hair should be clean, neat, and well-groomed.
  • Hair must be a natural color.
  • Hair must not obstruct a student's vision.
 

Accessories

  • Body piercings are not permitted. Ear piercings are allowed. Gauges are not permitted.
  • Bandanas are prohibited unless approved by the campus principal.
  • Head coverings, including caps, beanies, and hats, may not be worn inside the school building unless approved for a school activity, medical need, or religious purpose.
 

Dress Code Violations

If a student's attire or grooming does not meet campus expectations, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the issue. Parents may be contacted to provide appropriate clothing if needed. Repeated violations may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
